View of
the day-Actually, the view all day…on the road again.
We had a
good storm…if there is such a thing…strong winds and .60” of rain during the
night, then an early morning phone call from Jay, out by Alva, had us
contemplating a road trip. Jay picked Al
up and they went on a tour of some canola fields. You know what that means…we
need our pickup head, which is parked back at Carlyle, Saskatchewan.
We closed
up the camper, grabbed breakfast at the Sale Barn Café…a wonderful change from
the breakfast burritos, then dropped the hammer.
We were debating whether to find the detour for
those three bridges, now under construction, in Nebraska. Should we do it now, or wait until we come
back through with the header, or when we start back north with one of the small
loads…so many questions.
We were
able to go through the construction with no problem and the construction at
Taylor was in the same state. We even
stopped at the information booth to grab a local map to find a suitable
detour. Marilyn has a collection of 10
state maps in the door pocket of the Dodge, but not one of them was for
Nebraska. There’s one there now.
We
stopped a few times to switch drivers and grab some snacks for the road…at some
point we will run out of daylight and places to grab a coffee to stay awake…towns
will be few and far between once we hit South Dakota.
Al
insists the blog get done before the sun goes down so he doesn’t have the glare
from the laptop lighting up the inside of the cab while he drives and listens
to the hockey game. At this point in
time, since we left Cherokee at 11:30 am we have driven half of the 1060 miles
to Carlyle and have cleared Kansas, Nebraska and are into South Dakota.
A state
and a half to go…
