View of the day-It looks like the wheat is a ways off. Good thing we have plenty to keep us occupied until it’s ready.
We got
to sleep in this morning and it was a nice change not having to get into the
Dodge and drive some more. When we went
out to get started on our to-do list, Marilyn looked at the rain gauge that she
had emptied before we left and it had 1.20 inches in it! Much needed rain.
We wanted to get as much of the fixing and prepping done as we could since the temperatures were only going to be in the low 80’s for the next couple of days. Then they will get back to normal…closer to the 100’s…that’s the time to be in the air conditioning.
Al worked on getting all the tires aired up to their proper pressure, then did a bit of servicing on the headers. Marilyn got the combine cab all cleaned and the radios/camera installed, then it was time to get the headers in order.
We picked up the straight head and put it into transport so we could have it ready for action when the time came. After parking it to the side, we got the pickup header off the trailer, lubed it up and got it running to see if anything was going to go flying before we got to the field. Everything was in working order.

After
parking the combine, Al went to get the tractor and cart out of the barn where
we had it stashed to keep the rain off the tarp. We desperately need new hoops for the tarp
since these ones took a nasty hit from the snow this winter…that is on our list
for repairs. In the meanwhile, we left the tarp and the bottom slide open just
in case we have another deluge.
Al got
the cart all greased up, while Marilyn worked on the cab and windows. By this time it was getting close to supper
time, so we quit for the day…no sense in getting everything done at once. Besides, there was a hockey game Al had to
see at 6:30, so we had to get the rush on.
We got cleaned up, then went over to Ingersol to the Smok Shak for supper, then went back to the camper so Al could get his chair warmed up for the game. Marilyn had some shopping to do, so she took a road trip over to the Walmart at Alva.
More of the same tomorrow…
