View of the day-Al gets a shift to fill the cart.
Marilyn was up early to fuel and service the combine...and get the camera that spent the night in the cab. When she got back to the camper, Al took the pickup to fill the slip tank so we could top off the combine with fuel.
When we got to the field, Marilyn finished fueling again and Al took the tractor and cart up to the shop trailer to blow out the a/c drains on the cab. they get plugged up and eventually the water collects in the roof cavity and when you take a corner...you get a shower...not so pleasant, although cooling in the heat we have been having.
We made the move to the next field...the first time going down the road with a bigger header. Fortunately a lot of the trees had been trimmed and the header cleared everything in the mile drive. Marilyn started right in on the bearded wheat...a lot easier thrashing than the beardless variety we had just finished doing...and Al followed around the field in the cart.
There were forecasts of thunder showers but they seemed to be in the west...and staying there...so we were able to combine at a good pace in the 45 bu/ac wheat. The clouds started to get thicker and darker as the evening wore on, then the lightning started and the elevator wouldn't dump Al's last truck full, so he had to park for the night.
Marilyn kept combining until the cart was full...well, almost full...just as she was going to get another 50 bushels to top it off, it started raining...with only 10 acres to go. After a mad dash to get the cart tarped...always a great job in the wind and rain...she headed over to the pickup. Because it was raining there was no chance to put the leftover fuel that was in the pickup into the combine, so back it came to town to get topped off for tomorrow.
It looks like we may have gotten lucky and missed the brunt of the rain, we'll see in the morning. It was another 105 acre day...very nice.
Now if we could only find a 24 hour laundromat...
