View of the day-Al in his latest ride...backup for the long haul.

We were out at the field by 11am...no sense in getting their any earlier, the elevator didn't open until noon.  When we got out there, we were happy to see that Roger had managed to get a semi to help with the hauling and it was parked by the fence, ready to go.

Marilyn dropped the Dodge at the main gate and jumped in the General with Al to get a ride to the combine.  Al unloaded the cart, while
Marilyn moved over to the next field, catty-corner from where we had finished the night before.  After combining down to the main gate and cutting a patch to park the trucks, Roger showed up to help Al shuttle everything else into place and Marilyn got to continue combining.

We got that patch finished and then moved over to the last field by Roger's yard.  Al was kept busy hauling into Winner, alternating between the semi and General, but the last 50 acre field was a killer, averaging 70 bu/ac!

There would have been no waiting if we wouldn't have had to deal with the short loads, but we had figured out how to make sure the loads were timed so that the cart was ready with the exact amount for either the General or the back hopper of the semi.  Marilyn only had to wait twice, which really was amazing since that 45 mile round trip to the elevator took some time.

The good news was that they had just put up some new bins and that was the only place they were taking winter wheat and it dumped really fast, so Al averaged and hour per load from field and back.  Unfortunately, the last of the field wouldn't fit in the two trucks so the cart has 250 bushels in it that will have to go in on the General once it is dumped in the morning...a long ride for an even shorter load.  That would be a nice time to get stopped by the DOT to get weighed. No jinx.

Heat advisories out for tomorrow...actually, all week...
