View of the day-Fireworks stand doing, what else? Celebrating the 4th...Happy Independence Day!
Al was up early to get the loaded Freight into Winner, then he came back to Hamill, picke Marilyn up at the camper and went out to the field to empty the cart and take that load into Winner. Marilyn brought the tractor and cart back to the camper and waited for Al to get back with the Freight.
Al got to have a visit with a fellow Canadian harvester while he was in line at the elevator. They are sitting and hoping to find some work to fill in while they wait on their job in the northern part of the state. Once he got back to the camper, it was official...the Freight's grain hauling days were done...we think. We went back out to the field to get the combine and bring it back to the camper, but before we left the field, we got the General started so it could air up.
After we parked the combine and header, we went back out to the General...no luck with the air build up...the blown air bag was leaking it out faster than it could build up. We ended up taking the hose off the fitting, plugging it with a screw and taping it off so the air would build up enough to let the brakes off, then we could at least drive it back to the shop trailer.
We got it moved and jacked it up to take the air bag off, and discovered one of the inside dual tires was off the bead...when did that happen? Fortunately, we have time to do some fixing...but not today...everything is closed and it was too darn hot and sticky.
We kept cool in the camper for the rest of the day, then cleaned up for our road trip to Chamberlain to watch the fireworks on the Missouri River. We had planned on a late supper at Arby's when we got to Chamberlain...but they were closed, so we had to settle for McDonald's. We got our stuff to go, then parked on the highway that goes across the river and dined as we waited for the sun to go down and the fireworks to start.
For some reason, 10 minutes before the show was to start, the police drove down the highway announcing that everyone had to get off the highway and park on another road...nothing like putting up a few signs ahead of time. We moved and found a spot on the grass shoulder just before the official fireworks started...there were lots going off everywhere. We didn't buy any this year.
It was still over 80ยบ and there was almost enough of a breeze to keep off the mosquitoes...just a beautiful night to be outside enjoying the fireworks.
We were close to the front of the line to get out of town after the show and we made it back to Hamill by 11:30pm.
Tomorrow we go air bag shopping...
